Course Outline
Students will develop the skills gained in Year 9. A particular focus is understanding, responding to and using oral, written and visual language in a range of contexts. More formal study of literary genres will include: short stories, non-fiction, novels, poetry, and drama, but the emphasis will be on wide reading. Students will develop essay related skills for use in formal writing and literature analysis, as well as more formal speech-making skills. They will learn how to story board and produce a short film and they will study a feature film in detail.
Assessment
Internal assessment:
• creative writing
• produce a media presentation
• deliver a speech in a formal situation
• formal writing.
Two Written Examinations:
• read, study and show understanding of unfamiliar texts
• read, study and show understanding of extended written texts, short texts and film
• grammar and parts of speech.
Recommended Prior Achievement Level
