Qualification
NCEA Level 1

Course Outline
It is compulsory to study PE at Year 11. To meet a range of student needs, there are several course options available for students to choose from. All students will complete study and assessment in all of the Core Modules. Additional credits are available in the Optional Modules and these will depend on the choices made.

Core Module:

Students are assessed on their consistently high levels of participation and their effort to improve. Students will explain the influence of their experience on their participation.

1. Challenge Yourself
2. Leisure Activities
3. Women’s Health


Optional Modules
In addition to the core modules, students will be asked to choose a PE course from a selection of strands that will run concurrently. Students will be asked to make this choice at the same time as subject selection for the following year.

The course choices for Year 11 PE are:

1. Kiwisport Leadership (11PEKN; 11PEKS; 11PEKH) - teaching a Kiwisport to primary-aged children in one of the kiwisport activities associated with Netball (Year 3), Hockey (Year 4), or Soccer (Year 5)
2. Sports Performance (11PEPN) - performance in a netball.
3. Sports Science in Action (11PESS) - through practical settings, studying movement theory about how the body works to perform skills and be physically active
4. Dance Ensemble (11PEDE) - Students will be assessed on their individual dance skills as part of a whole class dance. The theme ‘Beachside’ is explored through a variety of dance genres & styles
5. Safe in the Outdoors (11PESO) - Climbing and Kayaking will be the major focus areas for developing an understanding of safety and responsible behaviours in the outdoors. Students will be assessed on their ability to evaluate their behaviour and to demonstrate safe practices.
