Health and Physical Education (9PEDU)

Course Outline 
This course fosters attitudes and values that endorse health-enhancing practices and positive attitudes to physical education. 

Modules 

  • lifestyles - an introduction to the concept of total wellbeing (Hauora). Students will participate in the following activities to enhance wellbeing, water fun, cross country, anatomy of the body, fitness concepts and training methods 
  • accept the challenge - students will build on strengths and increase confidence to perform skills in gymnastics and athletics
  • T.E.A.M. - “Together Everyone Achieves More”. This unit focuses on team membership, fairplay, communication and fostering positive attitudes to female involvement in the sports of softball, touch, and volleyball
  • independence - in this unit students will gain knowledge and skills to make health-enhancing choices in relation to nutrition.

Assessment
Internal assessment

  • Strand A: Knowledge of Hauora - application of knowledge of concepts learned in both practical lab reports and theory work during the lifestyles unit of work
  • Strand B: Gymnastics performance - quality of performance of a spring and a routine
  • Strand C: Teamwork, communication and fairplay - demonstration of interpersonal skills required for supporting others, taking responsibility, using initiative and fairplay.
