Health and Physical Education (9PEDU)

Course Outline 
This course aims to foster attitudes and values that endorse health-enhancing practices. It is intended that students will develop positive attitudes to lifelong physical activity as well as the knowledge and skills for maintaining their own personal well-being.

Modules
- lifestyles - an introduction to the concept of total wellbeing (Hauora). Students will participate in activities to enhance their knowledge of wellbeing, anatomy, fitness concepts and training methods. Students will gain further knowledge and skills to make health-enhancing choices in relation to nutrition.
- accept the challenge - students will build on strengths and increase confidence to perform skills in gymnastics and athletics
- T.E.A.M. - “Together Everyone Achieves More”. This unit focuses on developing the key competencies of managing self, relating to others, participating and contributing through team membership and increased levels of responsibility. Fairplay, communication and fostering positive attitudes to female involvement in the sports of netball, touch, softball and volleyball are developed through the theme of "Working to Win"


Assessment

Internal assessment
- Strand A: Knowledge of Hauora - application of knowledge of concepts learned in both practical lab reports and theory work during the lifestyles unit of work
- Strand B: Gymnastics performance - quality of performance of a spring and a routine
- Strand C: Relating to Others - demonstration of interpersonal skills required for supporting others and fairplay.
- Strand D: Participating and contributing - taking responsibility and using initiative.

This course is open to all students
