Touch

Touch is played during term 1 and term 4, at recreational and competitive levels at St Cuthbert’s College. During term 1 students from Year 11 – 13 participate in a weekly senior Touch secondary schools’ competition which is run by ASB College Sport.
The standard in this competition is high so every match is hard fought and physically challenging.
During term 4, Touch is available to Y6 students at Eastern Bays on Tuesday evenings and Y7&8 students on Friday evenings at the College Rifles Rugby Club.
An added bonus for the top year 7 & 8 Touch team is the opportunity to compete in the annual Central Zone Touch Rugby competition, in which St Cuthbert’s placed a close second to Auckland Normal Intermediate last year.
Junior Touch players from year 9 & 10 play on a Tuesday at Grey Lynn Park with teams in the A and B grades. The St Cuthbert’s College Touch players have excellent camaraderie on and off the pitch, and always give each other full support, especially when a St Cuthbert’s team is playing against a tough opposition side.
In support at training sessions and at every game are our dedicated contract, parent and student coaches. Their experience and expert guidance has helped every girl to improve her game.

Last year a number of Touch players were selected to trial for the Auckland Representative age group teams:
Tahlia Strachan and Gabriele Hawkins: trialled and were selected for Auckland U15 Girls
Theresa Fitzpatrick:trialled and was selected for Auckland and New Zealand U17 Girls.

Touch is great for your fitness and is an excellent off-season game to keep everyone’s passing and movement skills sharp, so if you haven’t tried Touch yet, then give it a go this year!
