In a packed Chapel on Tuesday night, Year 12 and 13 girls were joined by their parents for the launch of the College Ball for 2014. A fantastic team of parent volunteers support the Prefects and the Visual Arts Committee to deliver this major event. The committee delighted the girls with the revelation of this year’s theme: Narnia. As you can imagine, this theme gives the girls plenty of scope for their creative energies.
After lots of recent media coverage of the cost of sending Cinderella to the Ball, parents appeared to be relieved by the findings of a Year 12 and 13 stats assignment which showed that the average spend on dress/make-up/hair etc. was very close to expenditure in 2008 and that girls were more moderate in their expectations than in the past, a trend which we are encouraging. It was great to get such a positive and supportive response from the girls and their families to the guidelines for ensuring a successful, safe and happy College Ball.
Last term when I deferred my sabbatical leave (due to start at the beginning of Term 2), June 4 seemed a long way away. June 4 has, however, come around very quickly and I am heading away today for the last four weeks of this term. While I am away, Ms Robertson is the Acting Principal and Ms Mahon is the Acting Head of Senior School. I am very much looking forward to a chance to reflect and to prepare for the Centenary year ahead.
