Values programme

By Love Serve is so much more than our school motto. It is an ethos which lives across all aspects of school life and bonds the St Cuthbert’s family – both staff and girls – together.

We use it to check our own thoughts and actions and those of others.  It’s not unusual to hear our younger girls especially, asking themselves: “is this By Love Serve?”

St Cuthbert’s was founded 100 years ago under the benefaction of the Presbyterian Church. Today the College is non-denominational, with the Christian ethic at the heart of our community. As a St Cuthbert’s student, your daughter will be part of both rich heritage and tradition, and leading-edge innovation.

Our Values Programme

Evidence in New Zealand and abroad demonstrates that schools with clearly defined service programmes produce stronger academic results.  We know too, that helping others has a calming effect on the brain and reduces individual stress.

From Year 0 – 13 every girl participates in our Values Programme. A significant amount of time and focus is devoted to Service projects such as providing practical help and fundraising with organisations such as Mobility Dogs and the Make a Wish Foundation. Girls also support communities coping with natural disasters and colleagues coping with personal adversity.

One of the key components of Global Citizenship ‘Service’ comes from UNESCO’s 5th pillar of education: Learning to Transform Oneself and Society. This overlays with our motto, By Love Serve and we are strongly focused on learning to translate this motto into everyday practices.
