Junior School
Welcome to the
Junior
School section of the College website. The
Junior
School incorporates New Entrants to Year 8 and yet operates under a whole school 'team' philosophy with the
Senior
School. Our philosophy is underpinned by a seamless curriculum promoting the vision of a 'community of learning', at the heart of which is the Reggio Emilia approch.
Key elements in a St Cuthbert's College education are
· Involvement - all girls are encouraged to take up opportunities in sport, music and the arts. All girls perform in
Junior
School productions and carol services and participate in sports events of their choice.
· Self-responsibility and initiative are fostered at St Cuthbert's. As girls develop, the opportunities for a wide range of leadership experiences increase, and at appropriate times leadership training is given.
· Leadership skills - by Year 8 we expect girls to be excellent role models for younger girls. Class captains, games, sports and house captains, School Council representatives, Library, Information and Communication monitors - these are just some of the leadership roles held by girls in the Junior School.
· Friendship - those they make are lifelong.
With these aims and the girl's enthusiasm, commitment and energy - success is ensured. St Cuthbert's College also offers all students the opportunity to excel and improve on their personal best.
We aim to provide:
· a sound academic grounding for younger students and encourage older students to build on this foundation by exploring areas of specialist interest;
· a safe, nurturing environment where girls experience a curriculum that encourages them to question, to explore, and to use technology effectively;
· a dynamic and innovative working environment;
· to inspire and stimulate our students with a wide range of enrichment and extension activities;
· classrooms where laughter and learning go hand in hand to allow self-esteem, curiosity and motivation to flourish;
· and to encourage each girl to achieve her full potential.
Real learning and personal growth occur when a student feels safe at school, when she is encouraged to make choices appropriate to her needs and to do her personal best. These are part and parcel of the environment created in the
Junior
School.
"Every year I see girls who have been in the
Junior
School go on to achieve exceptional results in the
Senior
School."
