Social Studies
With a curriculum structure that involves studying Identity, Culture and Organisation, Place and Environment, Continuity and Change and the Economic World, Years 5 – 8 Social Studies is both challenging and rewarding.
The objective of this subject is to develop students' understanding of the way people participate in society and how society operates.
This includes studies from the past, present and future within and beyond
New Zealand.
By studying topics that are of interest and relevance they will use an inquiry learning process alongside thinking skills, ICT and philosophical inquiry.
Students will also be given experiences that include visits and activities outside the classroom, such as a visit to the Howick
Historical
Village,
Pacifica and the Medieval Banquet.
Health
The idea of Health in Y5-8 is to help students develop an understanding of the factors that influence the health and lifestyles of individuals, groups and society. With the aid of courses such as Schools Programme, Life Education and the Year 7 Parent and Child Adolescent Evening students are provided with information that they can use to maintain a healthy lifestyle through mental well being and nutrition.
There is a focus on an integrated curriculum, which includes subjects such as Personal Health and Physical Development, Relationships with Other People and Healthy Communities and Environments. This helps students to have a sense of hauora, positive attitudes, values and understanding.
