Year 7 - 8

Many of the students are new to the College in Y7, these girls come from a wide variety of schools and our focus for them is their successful integration into their new environment.
A major focus for us is to provide appropriate experiences in an environment which fosters a love of learning, so that all our students become independent lifelong learners and critical thinkers.

The homeroom teacher takes core curriculum subjects while specialist teachers take: French, Art, Oral Language, Music, Physical Education and Technology.
Thinking Skills are integrated into all curriculum areas for Y7 - 8 and our new girls have training in this at the start of the year.
All students take part in Philosophy for Children and Tournament of Minds.
There are opportunities for able students to take part in group activities including Autonomous Learning, Future Problem Solving and Writers’ Groups and extension tasks in conjunction with the Thinking Skills facilitators and ICT specialists.
All students sit the Australasian Schools’ Competitions in: English, Science, Mathematics and Computer Skills.

Year 8 students are the senior students of the Junior School and as such are encouraged to seek leadership roles.
Focus for these students is very much on personal organisation and independence in preparation for their transfer from the ‘home room’ environment of the Junior School to the more mobile and demanding day of a Year 9 student.
Year 8 students cover all core curriculum areas in their ‘home rooms’ as well as French, Art, Physical Education, Music, Religious Education and Technology with specialist teachers.
