OutdoorsMark Certification

The Kahunui outdoor programme has been audited by OutdoorsMark. OutdoorsMark is the national outdoor safety quality assurance association designed specifically for organisations involved in outdoor education, outdoor recreation and adventure activities.
The audit comprised of two parts.
The first was rigorous paper audit to assess the robustness of our safety policies, procedures and practices for alignment with current accepted outdoor industry standards. There are 33 standards to be met, covering procedures, instructor and student management and equipment and activity areas.
Kahunui easily met all standards and exceeded most of them.
The second part is a field audit which determines that the policies and procedures written are actually practiced in the outdoor programme. The auditor watched a water based activity from initial briefings to practice, checked the gear worn and carried, and questioned the staff extensively.
The auditor was impressed with the thoroughness of our systems and procedures and the safety awareness of our outdoor activities and staff.
Kahunui joins a small group of very reputable outdoor organizations, who have passed this audit.
The passing of the audit allows Kahunui to display the outdoors mark logo on its written material.
