Experiential Learning
Experiential learning is a proven way of encouraging young people to develop resilience, independence and teamwork.
Life at Kahunui aims to strengthen personal, community and social values and help prepare our exceptional young women to learn, grow and succeed in all spheres of life.
Academic Programme
The academic programme at Kahunui is rigorous and robust.
The core curriculum is delivered in English, Social Sciences, Mathematics and Science. During academic teaching hours, subjects such as Languages, Art, Business Studies and Music are delivered via the St Cuthbert’s College intranet and the students’ personal notebooks.
The Kahunui staff are qualified teachers and are continually working in conjunction with the Epsom academic staff to develop a unique curriculum which provides opportunity for the growth of sustainable and remarkable futures for the students.
Outdoor Programme
The outdoor programme is designed to facilitate the learning of team work and resilience, and to help students to face challenges.
The
Waiotahi
River and Valley, the
Kahikatea
Range and the Ohiwa harbour all lend themselves to a variety of pursuits: tramping, bushcraft skills, solo, rafting, fishing, sailing, small boat handling and mountain biking.
All outdoor pursuits follow recognised
New Zealand good practice in the outdoors. This includes having experienced and qualified staff, high standards of equipment and the following of rigorous policies and procedures. The pursuits chosen for a particular group consider the group needs, weather conditions and the season.
