Social Living

Through the Kahunui programme students learn to work in a team environment and they are assisted to meet personal challenges as part of a caring and supportive community.
Students live in individual houses accommodating up to eight girls per house.
A staff member is attached to each house group as their house tutor, with responsibility for the pastoral care of those eight students. The students manage their own house this includes cleaning, personal laundry, planning menus, purchasing ingredients and cooking
meals. The students maintain a household budget and develop an understanding of how to create a sustainable living environment. The girls are encouraged to hand write letters home at least once a week as there is no access to the internet or cell phones. Just as parents are excited to receive these letters, so too, the girls look forward to the daily rural mail delivery.
