Alice Smith raising money for Project K
Alice Smith. 1993-1999
“ Since leaving school I have completed a Bachelor of Communication Studies degree at AUT. I have spent the last 3 years overseas, primarily in Lake Tahoe, California and it was there that I really discovered the outdoors. I have worked in the ski industry and as a white water rafting guide. I met a few people over there who have done the Pacific Crest Trail and other long trails in the US, and that inspired me to come home and have my own adventure”Alice plus two American guys are starting a hike at Cape Reinga on Saturday September 22nd, and anticipate it will take them 5 months to complete, arriving in Bluff around the end of February. They will be hiking 2900km, mainly on trails, but we also have road and beach sections.
Through their hike they will raise money for two charities, one in the States and one in NZ. “We chose Project K because we wanted to support a charity that had a proven success record and one that encouraged people into the outdoors, especially those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to do so”.
