The Reception – Year 3 classes have been enjoying the newly implemented ‘foundation fitness’ programme this term. This programme comprises Jump Jam, rotations and shuttles. Jump Jam is a fun and exciting aerobics programme that motivates the girls and promotes health and wellness. The shuttles encourage teamwork and build the girls’ agility. The focus with the shuttles is developing good techniques with their movement, for example: jumping and landing correctly with two feet. The rotations part of the fitness programme supports the development of fine motor and grow motor skills.
The girls move week to week from each of the skill based activities; these include balance, hand/eye co-ordination, skipping, locomotion movement and specific fine motor skills such as cutting, beading, piecing Lego together and picking up objects with tweezers. The girls love the variation throughout the week and are also developing their social skills by working in mixed leveled groups.
Foundation fitness is an integral part of the Reception – Year 3 timetable. We look forward to seeing the development of the girls’ skills as the year progresses.
