Welcome back to the start of Term 2. A warm welcome to our new families; I met with our Junior School Council and Community Circle groups this week and the girls commented on how well our newest girls have settled in and that each class has helped to make them feel welcomed. The warm weather in May has meant our normal changeover to winter uniform will be extended. This means from the start of Week 5 all girls must be in winter uniform. A reminder that sports uniform and sideline uniform is outlined in the Junior School diary on page 16.
Congratulations to Sasha Situe for being selected for the recent Tennis NZ Training Camp as part of Tennis NZ’s Ongoing Talent Identification. Sasha has had recent successes in NZ age group tennis competitions. Congratulations to Scarlett Featherstone who has been cast in the lead role as Scout in the upcoming performance of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, with the Auckland Theatre Company playing at the Civic Theatre from 10-20 May.
Pack in Pack out
I have met with all of our girls this week to remind them about ‘Pack In and Pack Out’. We are all working to reduce litter in the College. My thanks to Sarah Franklin Brown for her great work with our girls on caring for the environment and making a positive difference. It would be greatly appreciated if you could support your daughters in being able to pack lunches with less packaging or lunch box wrappings that girls can easily dispose of in the bins provided or take home.
Stretch in the Junior School
All of our girls are involved in Stretch this year. I am impressed by the engagement and inquiry in all Stretch classes. These small, personalised learning groups enable every girl to stretch their thinking, awe, wonder and connection in a subject area within STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and in The Arts – Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, Composition.
Grandparents’ Day: Wednesday 18 May
Please let your daughter’s grandparents or special grand-family friend know to save the date in their diaries for this very special day.
