To celebrate the Rio de Janeiro Olympic games, 3SON has been doing some bright and colourful pastel art. We researched the wildlife that can be found in Rio and the girls decided that they wanted to use the toucan bird as the focus for their art piece. We found an image that we liked and printed it off.
Each girl was given a small piece of the picture. Their first job was to enlarge their image. We practised doing this by separating the image into quarters and working on each section one at a time. The girls then used pastel to colour the image in. We explored and perfected various techniques for blending using pastels.
Once each piece was complete, we put the enlarged images back together, much like a jigsaw puzzle. As each piece was put up on the wall, the girls loved seeing the toucan come to life. We are all very proud of the pastel art that is now on display in our classroom.
