In my new Stretch group we are learning about circuits, working on glow bugs. We made them by first cutting a lump out of an egg carton and then painted it the color or colors we wanted. Secondly we used a tool to poke a hole to put our LEDs in and put the battery in-between them and taped the LEDs and battery together so it won’t fall apart. Thirdly we added legs and decorated them some more.
I thought that the activity was fun and exciting, but needed a lot of time and patience, and I think other girls in the Stretch group would agree with me that it was a great way to introduce circuits. We learnt that a circuit is like a pathway made of wires which electricity can flow through. A Battery or in this case an LED is what gives the voltage that makes the electricity move. When the electricity gets to the LED, it has the power to make it light up.
