What a great few weeks we’ve had in the Middle School. Unfortunately the winter flu and cold season has now hit and I request that you keep your daughter/s home from school when they are unwell. The girls are in no position to learn when they come to school sick, and as well as feeling dreadful, they contribute to the ill health of others.
The annual Kapa Haka exchange with King’s is happening on Friday next week and it has been an absolute delight listening to the girls practising in the Middle School Centre. The Senior School girls are doing a wonderful job mentoring our Year 7 and 8 students. One of the real advantages of having our Year 7 and 8 girls on the same College site as our Year 9 – 13 girls is the peer teaching and learning we can facilitate. This is very powerful for the Senior School girls in terms of growing their understanding and experiences of leadership and service/values, as well as a powerful learning context for our Year 7 and 8 girls. It also points our Year 7 and 8 girls in the direction they want to travel when they see their fellow Senior School students coaching them in sport, or teaching them songs and movements in Kapa Haka or playing alongside them in one of the many bands and orchestras we have here in the College.

On Tuesday 30 August Dr Judith Locke is speaking to Middle School parents. If there is one event you should attend this year at the College, this is it. All staff are engaging in Professional Learning with Dr Judith Locke in the few days she is in the College. If you have not got your ticket yet you can purchase one here.
NZAIMS is fast approaching and we have 54 Year 7 and 8 athletes representing the College at the tournament this year. We wish these girls well as they get ready over the next few weeks. We also wish the ski team all the best for their competition next week (and I’m sure many of us would love to be down on the mountain with them).
Our Year 8 girls are in the process of choosing their options for Year 9 2017 and the deadline for this process is Friday 26 August. If you are unsure about the choices and would like a conversation about it, please get in touch and we can work through your questions with the relevant staff members.
