In preparation for 2017, Year 8 leadership selection is underway. House Captains are the first leaders selected. The process has four stages:
Students attend a leadership briefing and have the opportunity to complete an application to be a House Captain. Students then give a speech to their House explaining their attributes and qualifications. Students are given strict guidelines for the speech. Following speeches, students and staff vote. Applicants will be interviewed by Ms Talbot, Miss Vujcich and Ms Lean. These will be group interviews.
House Captains are role models for Middle School students as well as representatives of the Middle School in the wider community.
All student leaders and deputies sign a contract, which you can view here.
We are aware that some of our students are still learning how to manage their social and learning behaviours. Whilst we encourage all students to apply for leadership roles, we will discuss strategies and pathways forward for those students we believe are not yet ready to lead others.
At a Middle School assembly last week Year 7 girls identified a list of characteristics they want in their leaders. These included being By Love Serve, being kind, being inclusive, integrity, being a team player, being punctual, listening to others, using initiative, being a role model and more. To strive for leadership and to become more self-aware can be a very powerful motivator for our girls and we know you will support us in this process.
