On Monday 10 October, Year 7 had a Blast Off Day. This term we are learning about our passions. We had two guest speakers who were very inspirational. Damian Chase talked to us about his job as a specialist vet. He has operated on many big and special animals and has been able to travel to unique places, doing his dream job. He told us about a gorilla named Shufai who had a bullet in his arm. Damian went over to Africa with some other British vets to help save his arm.
Later on in the day, Ms Robertson came to Year 7 to talk to us about Nepal. She has been to Nepal many times and every time she brings resources with her to help people in need of better supplies. She once taught in a school at Nepal for a week and helped children to learn English.
We spent some of the day in small workshops with our Year 7 teachers. We made circuits and games. We thought about access to education by using a mini Future Problem Solving technique. We played Pictionary and did orienteering. We did a mini literature quiz, where we showed our love of reading.
Listening to our speakers share their passions was the highlight of my day. I am looking forward to finding out my passion this term. I thought Blast Off Day was a day to remember and I learnt about following your passions.
