Here we are in the penultimate week of school for 2016 and what a big year it has been in so many ways. We have farewelled Mrs Reid, and welcomed Ms Mexted. We have introduced a range of new enrichment classes across Year 7 and Year 8 including Philosophy for Children, Young Engineers, Community Problem Solving, and various writers’ workshops, and we are looking to extend the enrichment programme further in 2017 with the introduction of the Emerging Talent Programme in Year 8 in 2017. This programme is designed to challenge and support our Year 8 high performance athletes.
The Middle School Final Assembly yesterday saw us celebrating the many achievements of our girls including the largest number of recipients to date receiving gold, silver and bronze awards for completion of Science Award Trust badges.
The Year 8 plays were an absolute delight last week, and it is so positive to see the growth and development in the girls’ understanding of drama and acting as they move from a scripted play in Year 7 to creating a role for themselves in small groups in Year 8.
The Year 8 girls have worked on a 50 Day project in Term 4. This has enabled them to be reflective, and mindful as they identify an interest they will pursue for 50 days in a row. You will agree that there were some pretty interesting projects on show after the Year 8 Graduation on Monday.
Today we hosted the inaugural Middle School Table Tennis Challenge. Staff and students alike signed up for a bit of very light but somewhat competitive relief in the lunch break. Needless to say it was not the teachers taking out the wins!
Thanks to you for all of you help and support this year. From the bottom of our hearts we, the Middle School team, wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Ms Margaret Talbot
Head of Middle School
