Former St Cuthbert’s student, Roseanne Liang, visited all Year 8 students to discuss her film ‘My Wedding and Other Secrets’.
“Year 8’s amazing topic for Term 1, is Super Diversity. We watched an awesome movie, called My Wedding and Other Secrets, which was directed and written by St Cuthbert’s old girl, Roseanne Liang. The movie was about a young Chinese girl (Emily), and a European boy (James) who fall in love with each other. Emily is torn between two cultures, her mother and father’s strict Chinese culture, and James’s European culture. This was based on Roseanne’s true story. The next day Roseanne came to our school to talk to us about her story. She answered many of our inquisitive questions; there were a lot of them. Roseanne inspired us to follow our dreams, and do what we want to do. Thank you Roseanne for coming to talk to the year 8’s, it was fantastic.”

“I think we were all very impressed with her answers as we put her on the spot quite a lot. We were all really interested about how she used to go to St Cuthbert’s and how she always got straight A’s. Also when she told us about how the movie she made was all about her life. Also that she got a newfound respect for her mum when she became a mother herself. Overall it was a very interesting talk.”
