Undoubtedly the highlight of this week was the Mihi Whakatau to welcome our new Principal, Ms Ros Mexted.
Ms Mexted and the Westlake Manuhiri were called on the Epsom campus by Year 13 student Amy Boroevich and senior student Leah Watt delivered her student welcome fluently in Te Reo. There was, in addition, a strong and joyful backing from a Kapa Haka group comprising of staff and students from across the College.
The campus seems quieter now with all senior students either sitting external exams (IB) or about to begin (NCEA). The library reading room is filled with those engaged in quiet study and some girls are taking advantage of last minute examination tips from staff who are eager to help.
We were impressed with the speedy way in which Year 13 tidied the campus after their traditional farewell pranks last Friday. In addition, we were grateful for the many senior students who took a break from their exam study to come in to school and help Mrs Leuschke with the transition day for those current St Cuthbert’s students moving to Year 9 in 2017.
There was a certainly a palpable air of excitement in the atrium on Wednesday morning as the 2017 prospective students from outside the College gathered for their orientation day. Our current students were their guides for the day and I heard from the new parents at the welcome function later that evening that their daughters had really loved their taste of St Cuthbert’s, felt warmly welcomed and couldn’t wait to start!
I enjoyed talking to current Year 8 parents on Wednesday afternoon about what lies ahead for their daughters as they begin their secondary school journey. The Senior School Deans and I are happy to be contacted anytime if there are any further questions to be answered.
