Student leadership is a big part of the start of the year in the Senior School. The Year 13 Leadership Camp at Kahunui at the end of the holidays brought the girls together and worked through a range of leadership experiences and activities to prepare the cohort for their role as student leaders of the College. While the Prefects were selected last year a number of other key student leadership roles are decided at the start of the school year. Congratulations to the following girls who are House Captains and Committee Leaders. I know that they will do an outstanding job.

The focus on student leadership continues at assembly next Monday where Year 12 will receive their Senior Academy badges, a mark of recognition that they are now stepping up in leadership and the Head Girls will be speaking about the role and importance of student leadership in the College.
The beginning of the year sees the release of academic results for IB, NCEA and Scholarship. I would like to congratulate all girls as again we have achieved fantastic results across all year levels. We are very proud of you all. Our congratulations in particular to Jess McDougall who was the top scholar in New Zealand for Design and to Francesca Qu who was the top scholar in the country for Music. This was an incredible achievement as Francesca was an IB student in Year 12 last year. Our annual Scholars’ Awards Assembly on Monday 10 April will acknowledge top academic achievement from 2016.
Our top IB scholars were recognised by the Governor General at the IB Awards ceremony at Government House. Seven of our girls attained 40 and over out of a top possible score of 45 to be in the world wide elite 40 plus cub and received their awards from Dame Patsy Reddy. IB is sat by students from across the globe and our girls do exceptionally well. They can be very proud of what they have achieved.
We have had good weather when it mattered most, especially for Athletics Day and Swimming Sports. These were fabulous days with intense competition and great inter House spirit and rivalry. House dress up costumes get more creative each year with the House Captains leading by example. The days were enjoyed by the girls and the staff and it was great to see so many parents as well. The results for both events are still being analysed and will be announced at the start of next week.
Year 9 Commons
We recognise the importance gathering places for the girls where they have their own area to call “home”. This week we have set up a Year 9 Commons space downstairs in the Information Centre where they can gather as a year level, relax and be with friends. There are beanbags and small couches for their enjoyment. Over the next few weeks we are looking to develop further spaces for Year 10 and Year 11.
Please note that the Term 1 Reporting Evening for the Senior School will be held on Monday 6 March 3.45pm – 6.45pm. This is for all parents/guardians of Year 9 students and any new Year 10-13 students. Bookings will be online and open from noon Monday 27 February, to close on Monday 6 March at 9.00am. Reports will be emailed home on Friday 3 March.
Francis Compton Library – Information Centre
The library closes at 5.00pm daily. Please be aware there is no supervision after this time.
