Centennial Centre for Wellbeing

19 September 2014

The Centennial Centre for Wellbeing is officially open!

This Centre will offer extensive programmes in pastoral care, sport, health, nutrition and fitness in a number of different spaces. It comprises of:

  • The Margaret Beale Aquatic Centre
  • The Beattie Centre
  • The Old Girls’ Health Education Centre
  • The Sports Department
  • The Fitness Centre

The Margaret Beale Aquatic Centre includes two pools – a learners’ pool and an eight lane, 25m x 20m pool with a moveable floor. The learners’ pool is perfect for our younger girls still learning to swim, while the larger pool can be used for water polo games, aquatics lessons and swimming sports.

It also boasts one million litres of the cleanest pool water in New Zealand, thanks to a vacuum sand filter technology for crystal-clear water and UV filtration to minimise chlorine use.

Above the main pool there is a large seating area for up to 250 spectators and the Old Girls’ Honours Wall: a record of all the sporting achievements of our Old Girls from the past 100 years.

The large glass doors can slide open and moveable bleachers create extra seating for special events such as Swimming Sports.

The Centennial Centre will operate seven days a week, with our girls using it during PE lessons, outside of school hours for sports training and Boarders will be able to use it during their leisure time. It will also be open to the wider community through the St Cuthbert’s Swim School.
