Teaching Award
St Cuthbert’s College mathematics teacher, Mrs Vicky Binedell, won one of only twelve teaching awards at the (NEiTA) Excellence in Teaching and Leadership Awards earlier this month.
Unbeknown to Mrs Binedell, a student nominated her last year, and she was notified that she was a regional winner at the end of last term.
There were 270 nominees for the teaching award.
“I was surprised and honoured. Also my colleagues put in testimonies, which was really humbling as they are all wonderful teachers.”
Mrs Binedell attended an official awards ceremony in Wellington on May 13, where she delivered a short self-chosen presentation followed by a luncheon hosted by Minister of Education Mr Chris Carter.
Her presentation, titled “Cetaceans, debris, students and statistics”, covered the statistics involved in whale strandings and marine debris, student involvement in statistics and statistics as a subject.
The NEiTA Excellence in Teaching and Leadership Awards aim to promote public acknowledgment of the teaching profession and particularly honour those who show excellence and commitment.
