Christine Gordon SC - Chairman

Christine Gordon SC was appointed to the St Cuthbert's College Educational Trust Board in 1994 and became Deputy Chairman in 2006. She assumed the role of Acting Chairman at the beginning of 2009 and was formally appointed as Chairman in July 2009
A student and boarder at the College from 1966 to 1970, Miss Gordon has in-depth institutional knowledge.
She is one of 24 partners in the law firm Meredith Connell, the Crown Solicitor‟s Office for Auckland, and has been involved in developing the firm from its comparably small beginnings with seven partners. The firm now has a total complement of 200 partners and staff.
In 2008, Ms Gordon was appointed SC or Senior Counsel.
The Board has overall governance responsibility for the College similar to governance in a corporate environment. The Board determines the strategic goals the College should adopt and ensures the College conducts its business and financial affairs to achieve future security.
Ms Gordon says the board‟s vision or mission is aligned with the College‟s mission statement, "creating remarkable futures‟.
“We also work to assist and back up our principal in keeping St Cuthbert‟s at the forefront of education in New Zealand,” she says. Ms Gordon says the Board is a cohesive group but healthy debate is expected and encouraged.“All Board members, without exception, give their time generously. They are all committed to the College and have a real interest in education.”

Christine has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Otago and studied law at the University of Auckland Law School

Mark Binns - Deputy Chairman

Chief Executive – Infrastructure Division, Fletcher Building Limited
Mark Binns was appointed to the St Cuthbert's College Educational Trust Board in 2005, he assumed the role of Acting Deputy Chairman at the beginning of 2009 and was formally appointed as Deputy Chairman in April 2010.
Mark joined Fletcher Challenge Limited in 1989 from the partnership of a large Auckland law firm.
Following roles in Fletcher Property and Fletcher Construction he was appointed the Chief Executive of the Infrastructure Division of Fletcher Building in 2000. This is the largest division of Fletcher Building and encompasses all the group‟s construction and concrete operations in New Zealand and Australia. Brands in this division include Golden Bay Cement, Firth Concrete, Winstone Aggregates, Humes Pipeline Systems, Rocla Pipes, Fletcher Residential and Fletcher Construction.
Mark is also a trustee of the Fletcher Trust and the Fletcher Building Employee Education Fund.
The Fletcher Trust, in addition to philanthropic activities, is the owner of New Zealand‟s largest private art collection and displays the art throughout the country in collaboration with both large and small art galleries.
The Education Fund has as its beneficiaries New Zealand and Australian employees and their dependants. With over $100m in the Fund a significant portion of the income each year is used to advance the educational interests of employees and their families.
His daughter Hannah was a student at St Cuthbert's from 1999 to 2005.

Simon Allen

Company Director
Simon Allen was appointed to the St Cuthbert's College Educational Trust Board in 2005.
He is a highly regarded investment banker with more than 20 years experience advising New Zealand's major industries. Simon formed ABN AMRO New Zealand as a greenfields operation in 1988, leading it to become one of the country's foremost registered banks. He resigned as Chief Executive in September 2009.
Simon chaired New Zealand Exchange Limited (NZX) from 2001 until 2008 and has also served on the boards of McConnell properties, ABN Amro Craigs and Auckland Healthcare. He is currently Chairman of Crown Fibre Holdings Limited, Auckland Council Investments Limited and the Financial Markets Authority. He is also a trustee of Snowvision, a charitable trust which promotes high performance snow sports.
Simon's daughter Antonia is a current student in the Junior School at St Cuthbert's. His other daughter, Claudia was a student at St Cuthbert's from 1998 to 2010.
He brings a broad spectrum of invaluable financial, commercial and management expertise to the Trust Board of St Cuthbert’s.

Simon has a Bachelor of Science from University of Otago and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Auckland. He is Fellow of Certified Securities Analysts Professionals.

Andy Coster

Company Director
Andy Coster was appointed to the St Cuthbert's College Educational Trust Board in 2010.
He has led strategy projects as part of a global management consultancy in London, Australia and New Zealand across a variety of industries.
He also has general management experience for a multinational covering corporate strategy and managing a business unit. In 2002, Andy established a new business and grew it to become New Zealand's largest in its sector.
In 2007 he sold the business to a global firm and now manages his own private investments.
Andy grew up in South Auckland where he attended Manurewa East School which today is supported by the St Cuthbert's Outreach programme.
He is married to Samantha. Their daughter Francesca is a current student in the Junior School at St Cuthbert's and their son Alexander is a student at King's School.
He brings with him a broad spectrum of strategic, commercial and management expertise to the Trust Board of St Cuthbert's.

Andy has a Master of Commerce (First Class Hons) in Corporate Strategy; a Diploma of Commerce in Operations Management and Marketing; and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance, all from the University of Auckland

Cameron Fleming

Cameron Fleming & Associates
Cameron Fleming was appointed to the St Cuthbert's College Educational Trust Board in 1998. He assumed the role of Chairman from 2001 until he stepped aside in February 2009.
Cameron founded Cameron Fleming & Associates a boutique commercial law firm in June 2010 after a highly successful career spanning 25 years at Russell McVeagh.
He has extensive experience in corporate advisory work, particularly in the area of mergers and acquisitions, and has advised on some of the major business transactions that have shaped New Zealand's business landscape.
He has served on the boards of public and private companies and as managing partner of Russell McVeagh
His daughter Allegra is a current student at St Cuthbert's. His other daughters were students at St Cuthbert's, Briar from 1990 to 2002, Sacha from 1991 to 2003 and Odette from 1994 to 2006.

Charlotte Hellaby

Company Executive, Wilson Hellaby Ltd
Charlotte Hellaby was appointed to the St Cuthbert's College Educational Trust Board in 2007. She was a student at the College from 1966 to 1978. She joined the committee of the Old Girls' Association in 2002 and was President from 2005 to 2007 Charlotte‟s mother and daughter are both old girls of St Cuthbert‟s College and her father was a Trust Board member from 1962 to 1973 Charlotte is in business with her family in the Wilson Hellaby group of companies, a company which has family links back to 1873. This is an Auckland based business which processes and provides fresh and frozen meat product to New Zealand and world markets.
Charlotte is one of three Patrons of Communicare, which is a non-profit multi-cultural organisation which has Friendship Centres throughout South, East, West and Central Auckland for older, lonely or disabled people. Charlotte‟s cousin was one of the founding Patrons of this organisation in 1959 and was asked to be involved as part of the 50 year celebrations.
Her daughter Etiennette Jacobsen was a student at St Cuthbert's from 1996 to 2004.
She brings strong links to the College Community and broad spectrum of invaluable commercial and management expertise to the Trust Board of St Cuthbert‟s

Malcolm Hope

Company Director
Malcolm Hope was appointed to the St Cuthbert's College Educational Trust Board in 2010. He is a self employed management consultant and director after a career in the engineering, construction and infrastructure industries. Ten years working in Canada with an international engineering company (largely in project finance) was followed by twenty years in various general management capacities with Fletcher Building.
Malcolm was also a senior executive with Waste Management for five years.
He is currently a director of Envirowaste Services Limited, and chairs two of its subsidiary joint venture companies.
His daughter Sarah was a student at St Cuthbert's from 1989 to 1995.
Malcolm brings considerable general management skills to the Board, with specific knowledge of project and construction management.

Malcolm has an honours degree in Engineering (Electrical) from the University of Canterbury and an MBA from University of Western Ontario.

Vas Lala

Chartered Accountant - Slight Lala & Co.
Vas Lala was appointed to the St Cuthbert's College Educational Trust Board in 2011. He has extensive experience within the retail, manufacturing and service industries.
Vas specialises in management accounting, business development and tax compliance and works alongside a number of clients advising owners and management on finance, business structure and growth.
As Treasurer on the committee of the Parents and Friends' Association from 2002 to 2007 Vas was responsible for this charitable organisations financial obligations and the overseeing of the financial management of Black Watch House. This role has given him strong links to the College community.
His daughter Nalika is a current student at St Cuthbert's and his elder daughter Shareena attended St Cuthbert's from Year 1 in 1993 to Year 13 in 2005.
His son Amriesh attended King's College.
He brings a broad spectrum of invaluable financial, management and commercial expertise to the Trust Board of St Cuthbert's.

Vas has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Auckland and is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Brent Lawgun

Executive Director, Maui Capital
Brent Lawgun was appointed to the St Cuthbert's College Educational Trust Board in 2011. He has experience in private equity investment, corporate strategy and governance and law.
Brent is a founding principal of Maui Capital, a private equity fund manager which partners with successful management teams to build and grow quality New Zealand and Australian businesses.
He was previously a Director of Private Equity at Goldman Sachs JBWere, where he invested and managed the Hauraki Private Equity No 1 and No 2 Funds. Brent is currently a director of the Maui Capital Indigo Fund, BJ Ball Group, Focus Paper, Euro Corporation Group and Insulpro Manufacturing.
He is a past director of a number of businesses including Hirepool, Norfolk (NZ), Masport and A&G Price, and has previously been a Council Member of the New Zealand Private Equity and Venture Capital Association Brent also has experience in mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate finance generally, and began his early working career as a corporate lawyer.
Brent's daughters Olivia and Katie are current students in the Junior School at St Cuthbert's.
He brings a broad spectrum of invaluable strategic, financial and commercial expertise to the Trust Board of St Cuthbert's.

Lynda Reid

Principal
Lynda Reid became Principal of St Cuthbert’s College in 1996.
Previously she was Deputy Principal of St Hilda’s Collegiate School in Dunedin (1990-1996) and Head of English and Dean of Y13 at Dunedin’s Logan Park High School (1980-1990).
Active in many areas of education outside the College, Lynda is an Executive Board Member of the New Zealand Institute, a member of the Secondary Leaders’ Forum, and sits on the Community Consultation Committee of the University of Auckland as well as on the Sub-Committee on University Entrance of the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors’ Committee.
Previous commitments include membership of the Executive of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools from 2000-2006 and the presidency for the next two years. She was also Vice-President of Independent Schools of New Zealand.
To date Lynda is the only head of an independent school to receive the Secondary Principals’ Association of New Zealand Leadership in Education Award.
As well as girls’ education in general, Lynda has particular interest in the development of critical thinking, the integration of ICT into rigorous academic programmes, values education, and experiential learning.
Lynda’s husband is the Associate Principal, Head of Senior Campus at Dilworth School. Their daughter, Elizabeth, was at St Cuthbert’s and is studying at the University of Auckland. Their son, Nicholas, has just completed an M.Sc. and is now an Environmental Field Officer with Auckland City.
Lynda’s leisure interests include travel, skiing, theatre, reading and art.

Lynda has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Diploma of Teaching from the University of Canterbury.

Rachel White

Rank Group Limited
Rachel White was appointed to the St Cuthbert s College Educational Trust Board in 2011.
She was a student at the College from 1981 to 1987. Rachel subsequently attended Auckland University graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Commercial Law.
Her roles have included six years at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Director in Audit and as a member of PwC's global network of accounting consulting services, specialising in the reporting aspects of transactions and financial instruments.
Rachel currently holds a senior management position with a large New Zealand corporate focussing on the external reporting requirements of companies and of acquisition and divestment projects within the group.
Rachel has always been a strong supporter of St Cuthbert's. She joined the St Cuthbert s Old Girls' Association committee in 2003 and was President from 2007 to 2008.
During her time at PwC Rachel was also the liaison with St Cuthbert's for the PwC Scholarship Programme.
Rachel is married to Chris and they have three children, Jack (11), Hugo (8) and Claudia (3).
She brings to the Trust Board a strong financial background as well as considerable commercial and legal acumen.

Rachel has a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Commercial Law from the University of Auckland.

Joanne Wills

Company Executive, TimTech Chemicals Ltd
Joanne Wills (Hughes) was appointed to the St Cuthbert‟s College Educational Trust Board in 2004. Joanne was a student at the College from 1964 to 1969. Joanne‟s grandmother, Joycelen McKenzie (Bews) attended Mt Eden College which was founded by her great aunts, Miss May and Miss Kate Bews. Joanne‟s mother, Jean Hughes (McKenzie), sister Dinah Walker and three daughters Anna (1991 to 1997), Nicola (1996 to 2000) and Julia (1998 to 2002) are Old Girls of St Cuthbert‟s College.
Joanne served on the committee of the Old Girls‟ Association from 1991 until 1998 and was President in 1995 and 1996. During this time she served on the Parents‟ and Friends‟ committee and the Chapel Fundraising committee as well as being a Bequest Patron. These roles have given her strong links to the College community.
Joanne works part-time administering the accounts for a chemical company and is a director of two private companies.

Joanne has a NZ Diploma in Business.

Kathryn Yule
