Careers Counselling
Rather than a graduation, American colleges refer to commencement ceremonies, and this is one of the primary goals of the Careers function at St Cuthbert’s College; to support, nurture and optimise the commencement of every student’s journey beyond our gates.
Striving for Personal Excellence
Students leave St Cuthbert’s knowing where they are heading. 94 - 100% of our students continue to degree level study. We celebrate the academic marvels and equally we laud every student who has put in that extra degree of effort: her persistent commitment and actions are rewarded with tertiary study opportunities, employment outcomes and with the power that comes from being able to choose.
Building a Connected Community
On a near daily basis Old Girls report back on what they are up to – whether it be backpacking around Central America, working as a forensic scientist in the aftermath of the London bombings, training hunt horses in Ireland or simply emailing as they burn the midnight oil studying for law intermediate exams.
From first year out onwards, Old Girls offer to mentor current students; to share their experiences, to ‘offer a hand’ – in the same way as many parents and friends of the College do.
Developing all Dimensions
Athletes gain sports’ scholarships to fund undergraduate education in the
USA. Exquisitely talented musicians commence at universities in
Houston and
Hamburg. Photography students decide to turn their garage in to a darkroom when they decide a career in accountancy will finance the purchase of fabulous quality photographic paper to be used in the leisure hours. Pursuing Innovation, Valuing Tradition
Through IT programmes such as CareerBuilder and CareerQuest students embark on a journey of self-analysis and discovery exploring their strengths and interests and revealing how these marry with the world of work.

2008 Careers Evening
St Cuthbert’s College and Auckland Grammar paired up for their annual careers’ evening on Wednesday 11 June.
The joint venture, held at St Cuthbert’s College this year, is an evening dedicated to informing students about potential pathways post school.
Twenty tertiary institutions set up staffed displays and over 100 guest speakers presented career-field seminars, sharing insights into the world of tertiary study and work.
Auckland Grammar Head Boy, Tama Toki, spoke highly of the idea to partner with St Cuthbert’s for the career evening.
He said it ensured a more diverse range of presentations as it was not just aimed at girls or boys.
“It is important to leave school with a purpose and careers night provides that direction,” he said.
Search Principal at Sheffield Search and St Cuthbert’s College Old Girl, Clare Litten, opened the evening with an address titled “Your Future Employability”.
Ms Litten’s role, which involves searching for and appointing Chief Executives and senior managers of organizations, made her a highly qualified choice as the guest speaker.
She shared with her audience the importance of life-long learning, emotional intelligence, and educational qualifications as well as giving CV and interview tips.
She also stressed that kindness and respect were also crucial.
“Old fashioned values are habits that will stand you in good stead in the work environment.”
Fields covered ranged from industrial design to the diverse opportunities within New Zealand’s three Defence Forces.
