Libraries

St Cuthbert’s College Libraries are lively, busy places at the centre of the school’s teaching and learning activities. There are spaces for quiet reading, individual study, group study and class instruction. They are open through lunchtime and after school.

Fiona Mackie - President of the School Library Association of NZ

The manager of the St Cuthbert’s College Frances Compton Library, Ms Fiona Mackie, has just been confirmed as the President-Elect of the School Library Association of New Zealand (SLANZA) – an organisation she helped to found 10 years ago.
Ms Mackie joined the National Executive at the end of October and will become President in July 2011 at the biennial SLANZA conference, which is being held at St Cuthbert’s. She is also on the conference committee.
“Fiona is a professional, experienced and well respected librarian and SLANZA will be in good hands with her at the helm,” said Senga White, current president. “I wish her all the best as she takes on this challenge of National Executive for the next four years.”
SLANZA is the national association for all who are interested in school libraries. The association aims to strengthen and promote the role of school libraries, to enable all school communities to become information-literate.
“I was involved with the creation of SLANZA as a national body,” said Ms Mackie, “and was on the Auckland branch committee for several years, as well as being on the conference committee for the two conferences held in Auckland, so I have had a long association with SLANZA.”
