New Zealand Scholarship Awards
New Zealand Scholarship is a monetary award to recognise top scholars throughout the country. It is a challenging and rigorous examination with only 3% of those entered for NCEA Level 3 gaining the award.
The Awards are
$500 for a single scholarship
$2000 per year for 3 years for candidates top in a Scholarship subject, or for candidates who achieve 3 Scholarships
$5000 per year for 3 years for candidates attaining 3 Scholarships with 2 at outstanding level
The premier award of $10,000 per year for 3 years for the very top 5-10 candidates who achieve 3 Scholarships with outstanding performance.
To receive these financial awards students must be involved in successful study in a tertiary institute in New Zealand.Foreign fee paying students are not eligible for the financial awards. There is no compassionate consideration provision for the Scholarship examinations.
Student Commitment
In 2007 Y13 Scholarship candidates at the College have been timetabled for Scholarship classes. Students at the College presenting for New Zealand Scholarship are expected to have a high level of commitment to their study and be prepared to complete additional work beyond these timetabled classes. Scholarship demands that students synthesize and integrate concepts and apply a higher level thinking than that required at Level 3 of the NCEA. They must be self directed and take responsibility for their learning.
Scholarship Contracts
In order to manage and assist candidates presenting for the Scholarship examinations the College requires all students to sign a contract stating their intention to meet these further commitments. The contract which students sign in term 2 is monitored by the Student Programmes Manager and the Qualifications Manager. Any candidate who does not meet the requirements of the contract may not be eligible to be entered for Scholarship examinations. Parents will be informed by letter if candidates are not meeting the requirements of the contract.
