St Cuthbert’s Students Win Chinese Short Film Competition

Year 10 students Peyton Leigh, Olivia Lawgun, Isabella Richardson, and Sofia Barro recently won the Best Film Award at the New Zealand Primary and Secondary School Students Chinese Short Film Contest.

The theme for this year’s contest, which is organised by ILEP and NZCLTA, was Having fun with Chinese. Peyton, Olivia, Isabella, and Sofia’s film tells the story of a day in the life of Peyton, who invites her friends to play tennis. One of her friends has an accident and the girls must call for a doctor.

Year 10 students Grace Li, Marni Brewis, and Lili Morgan-Rees and Year 12 students Yuewen Zheng and Tina Fu both won Merit awards for their submissions.

In addition to the successes of our students, Jessica Tan (Head of Subject: Chinese) also won the Best Guidance Award in the teaching category. Of her student’s success, Jessica says that the girls were commended for their accurate pronunciation.

This is the first time that St Cuthbert’s girls have entered the competition so to win the competition overall was an excellent result!
